Welcome to the OS

Welcome to the Outdoor Sensationalist, a blog devoted to celebrating the Great Outdoors and all the ways that it stimulates our senses! If this sounds interesting to you, you're probably an Outdoor Sensationalist too, and you'll enjoy peeking in on my adventures!

For our purposes here, "the outdoors" can be anywhere from your backyard to your favorite National Park to somewhere that's never been mapped... as long as you can feel the wind blow and connect with the earth underfoot, I'll take it.

This blog has been in the dreaming phase of it's life cycle for quite some time. It is now breaking out of its cocoon, the sweet incubator of my imagination. The idea was first inspired by my love of cooking in the outdoors. As an adventure guide and frequent backpacker, I have enjoyed the challenges of getting creative in my wilderness kitchen, and the great pleasure of feeding many hungry people over the years. As well, I've gotten to experience the techniques and artistry of other adventurers in their own kitchens, and I'm always fascinated by the endless creativity that's brought to this all-important part of life.

It occurred to me that there ought to be a place to share ideas and experiences. Not just about cooking, but about all the tastes, smells, textures, images and stories that are born when we return to the heart of nature. Since I have the privilege of doing this this quite often (visiting the 'heart of nature', that is) I decided I'd step up and be your hostess in exploring these pleasures and places.
